MTJB Land Acknowledgement: The School-Age Groups from the Clothier Street Site and Holy Cross Site in Kemptville participated in a leadership club. For the club's larger summer project, the kids worked together to create a Land Acknowledgement for our MTJB website. They learned about what land acknowledgements are, about the traditional lands our Centre's occupy, as well as reviewed some sample land acknowledgements from their schools and our communities. They then used what they learned to put together a land acknowledgement for our Centre's.
Down below is the culmination of their hard work: More Than Just Babysitting Child Care Centre Inc. acknowledges that our Centre's are located on the unceded traditional territories of the Algonquin, Anishinaabeg (Ah-nish-ih-nah'-bey), and Haudenosaunee (hoh-DEE-noh-SHoh-nee) peoples. We are dedicated to reconciliation through learning about the traditional guardians of these lands and sharing our learning with others. We respect these lands that we play, learn, and grow on, and the diverse cultures of the people who call these lands home.
MTJB is committed to fostering a caring community that supports our youngest generations, while looking forward to our impact on the next seven generations. Our goal is to teach children in our care how to be good to everyone and how to take care of everything and everyone on Turtle Island. As a child care centre, the wellbeing of our community’s children is our top priority, and involving them in our journey towards reconciliation, and learning with them, is our goal.
